Charpy Impact Test

Charpy impact test is a simple test to determine the toughness or energy absorbing ability of a material. Preparing of specimen for impact test is very important to find exact results. Energy-absorbing property of different metals is dependent on temperature and most of the material is brittle at low temperature, so this test is performed at different temperature and it depends on the service conditions. There is a simple method for this test which specimen is located in the equipment and a stick in the specific height strikes it, after collision, the handle stands in different height of its first stage, so the difference in its height demonstrates the energy that specimen absorbed in the collision and it is equal to its toughness value.
